Right side hinge spring broke
Hinge replacement Maytag model MER5530AAW. Remove the oven door and bottom storage compartment door. Remove the upper and lower hex head screws that hold the hinge in the range frame. To get it to drop down along the inside of the side panel you need to lift it slightly to clear and inner panel lip and push inward then down. You may need to use a screwdriver or your fingers up inside the side panel through the space along the side of the storage drawer. The hinge rests between the side panel and the oven insulation so it may snag on the insulation. After it's free it will drop down into this bottom side area so you can remove. To install the new hinge, I made a guide out of a piece of stiff file separator, cut into a right angle approximately 9" long on each side and just slightly smaller in width as the hinge opening in range. Inserted this into the hinge slot (keep it along the side panel) and down to the storage are below. I used this to guide the new hinge up between the separator and oven side panel and into position without hanging up on the oven insulation. Slip the door back on and re-install the storage drawer. Actual time to replace one hinge, less than 15 minutes.

oven door would not seal properly. worn hing one side.
remove the oven door by opening it and lifting it off the hinges. no tools, this is a user action described in the owner's manual as part of normal cleaning maintenance. lift range top and prop with built in "hood props," also described in the owner's manual as part of normal cleaning. remove screws holding side panels (one small plast ic cap on the side of the range controls panel, one metal side of oven) and lift the side panel off. open the bottom drawer to expose one of two screws (the other is exposed when the oven door is removed) which hold the hinge assembly. push the hinge through toward the rear of the oven. slip the new hinge into place, reattach the two screws to fasten the new hinge into place. replace the cap and panel and screws, lower the range top, and replace the oven door. done!
