warm refrigerator, cold freezer (w/ice buildup blocking the ducts on the back freezer wall)
I had had this problem when the refrigerator was about 3 years old. At that time, Amana replaced the control board for free under our extended warranty. They may have also replaced the thermistor, but I'm not sure about that. When the problem occurred again a few weeks ago, everything I read seemed to suggest that the problem was most l
... Read moreikely a failure (again) of the control board. I was able to track down a PDF of the service manual, which was invaluable in doing this repair, although I think that the replacement control board came with installation instructions. JUST MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE FRIDGE OR TURN OFF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY REPAIR. The board is easy to access- it's located in a drop-down compartment next to the light in the refrigerator compartment. Be careful when pressing on the tabs that release the drop-down-panel- I found it helpful to use a mirror to be able to see where to press on the tabs. The old board came right out- it had 2 plugs and a few screws. The replacement board fit in perfectly. When I re-started the fridge, the new board had to be programmed, but the service manual had instructions for that- it was pretty easy. It's been about 3 weeks now and the refrigerator is running fine- no recurrence of the problem. ONE THING WORTH NOTING- I can't swear to it, but I think we might have had a brief power outage just before the problem with the warm refrigerator started. My house gets a lot of those voltage fluctuations. The control board is probably sensitive to electrical quality them same way a computer is. I am thinking of investing in a surge suppressor outlet where the fridge is plugged in to avoid having this happen again in the future.

Great Video Instruction
Replaced the part with no problems at all. Very good video and description on how to. Just a waiting game now to see if freezer vents freeze up again, generally takes a week or so to freeze back up which causes the refrigerator to get warm, no cold air flowing up i guess. This all started when power went out for 4 hours each day, 2 days in a row. If it doesn't work, guess i will try to replace the Thermistor next and hope that fixes the issues. Refrigerator is only 5 years old.
