Product Description

This is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer. This six-hour defrost timer is commonly used with refrigerators, and freezers. The defrost heater is in place to briefly heat the evaporator, also known as the cooling coil, which melts any frost that has built up on it during the cooling cycle. The defrost heater and compressor work in tandem, whenever one is on the other is off. Quite simply the defrost timer acts as a clock, it continually advances and alternates between activating the cooling cycle and the defrost heater. If you notice your fridge is not getting as cold as it should, or the temperature is not as consistent as it should be you might have a problem with the defrost timer in your appliance. This defrost timer has a six-hour timer, it is 1/2hp, 120V, and 60Hz. Before beginning this repair make sure you have unplugged your refrigerator, and safely stored sensitive food.

Replaced timer. Timer on this model is located outside of the refrigerator on lower back. Access and removal was easy using nut driver. Reinstallation of new, generic timer should have been completed in two minutes. However, the included instructions were needlessly poorly organized. This caused me to waste an hour wondering why on earth would I want to follow the instructions on the left half of the sheet. I photographed the instruction sheet with my edits, but there is no provision here to include that picture. Those suggestions include moving the sentence that begins "Connect..." 1/2 inch down to the space between the heading THREE-WIRE HOOKUP and figure 1. Then, for consistency, moving each of the two sentences that begin "For 6 hour..." 1/2 inch down to the space between their respective headings and figures. Such a simple change! I hope that proves helpful to someone. The other time waster was the fact that the original screws don't work with this unit, and no replacement hardware was provided. Fortunately, I found suitable nuts, bolts and washers in my box of such. And so it was that this "really easy" 5 - 10 minute chore morphed into a "bit difficult" 1 - 2 hour project.

The refrigerator was not working, only interior light was on.
Following the electrical connection diagram in the back wall of the refrigerator I found 110V power missing right at defrost timer connector, checking with multi-meter. The substitute part I got required longer mounting screws that I got from my junk box. Besides that I had to configure pins at the timer connector according to included di agram. I also replaced worn out door bushing at the same time, that required both doors removal.
