Carbon brushes are one of the most commonly replaced power tool parts. This is because carbon brushes are wear items, meaning that through friction and use they will gradually wear away until they need replacing. Worn brushes are a common causes of intermittent motor function, reduced electric braking and reduced motor power. A worn-out brush will often be worn down near to the wire lead and can be cracked, pitted, or burned. When replacing carbon brushes, be sure to inspect your armature for burns, cracks, or other damage which can indicate larger motor problems.

This is a set of two carbon brushes for an angle grinder. It fits onto the complete brush housing; one goes on each side of the field coil. The brushes produce current in electric motors and this is what powers the tool. Replacing brushes is one of the most common power tool repairs and will need to be done every so often. If upon inspection you notice they appear damaged, cracked, or burnt, they will need to be replaced.

This power cord is used for power tools and some of the following tools: electric drills, reciprocating saws, jig saws, biscuit joiners, and routers. The power cord is made for double insulated tools and is a two-wire cord with two prongs, but it does not need a ground wire. If there are cuts in the cord insulation, intermittent power during operation, or damaged and bent prongs, then replacing the power cord will solve the problem. The tools needed for this repair are a Phillips screwdriver, small screwdriver, wire cutters/strippers, crimping tool, and terminal (ring or spade). Repair tip: During installation, remember that new cord wires must go correctly into wire terminals. Also, to avoid pinching when the tool case is put back into place, remember to route cord and wires in the right path.

This is a set of two carbon brushes with attached lead wires. Please note that the brush holders are sold separately. Carbon brushes are a common wear part on power tools and will need to be replaced from time to time. Both brushes should be replaced at the same time, even if only one appears worn. Worn brushes are the most likely cause of reduced motor power. It is a good idea to also inspect the armature at the same time, as damage to this part can be an indication of more significant motor issues.
