Product Description

This is a genuine OEM worm following gear for your stand-up mixer. The gear is made of metal and is attached to the planetary shaft. This is an important part of the appliance as it helps to drive the beaters for your mixer. Over time, the teeth on the gear can become stripped or worn down, and it will need to be replaced. Signs that you may need to replace this gear are if the mixer is not spinning, or if it making excessive noise. Please be sure to unplug the mixer before beginning this repair.

Is my model the same as the model that has a 5 at the end? For example "kp26m1xwh5" vs "kp26m1xwh" without the 5. Will parts be compatible between the two?
For model number KP26M1XWH

The worm gear was skipping
I removed the 5 screws holding the cover. They were square but you can use a Phillips driver. Then I removed the cover on the transmission. All the gears have a place fairly easy to see where they all fit together. The only thing is there is a clip on the main shaft it will need to removed. If you don't have a clip spreader you'll need 2 screw drivers (flat ones). One to spread open the clip and one to slide up the clip take your time. There are two gears on top of each other. Remove the top gear set aside the bottom gear has a pin through the main shaft just pop it out set aside. Here is where the hammer comes in to play. Tap the shaft lightly while holding the mixer connector underneath. The gear is on the shaft snug. Now you'll have to remove the all the grease and replace with new grease. Install the new gear in reverse order. Then add the new grease. Take you time and clean the gasket on the transmission cover before you install it. Test before you install the cover. If all sounds good install the rest of the parts.

Watched the video several times. Once I received the parts, I watched it again to see specific sections. Repair was easy when I knew what to expect. It would help if the video could be in sections, so you would not have to watch the entire beginning in order to see later instructions. Also found the parts manual on line and ordering of pa rts was very easy and processed correctly by your company. Really appreciated your help.

Mixer not turning
The reason I put very difficult and more than 2 hours is not because it is really difficult but because I still have not received the retaining pin from fix.com. We received the other three parts, but not the retaining pin, so I still can't complete the project. I emailed them to let them know 26 days ago, and they still have not responde d. You are not able to speak to anyone on the phone either. Extremely poor customer service!

I stripped the worm gear by overloading the mixer with bread dough.
It is very easy to get the mixer housing apart by removing the screws. the gears and drive are easy to get at and see after the grease is removed. The drive assembly is held on the shaft with a snap ring that that must have a good set of snap ring pliers to remove. After removing the stripped gear it is just a mater of replacing it with the new one. It is easy to see what has to be done. I would like to thank this site for for the super fast service. Jim

Steps: disassemble, clean, reassemble with new gear and new grease.

I used paint thinner to clean up and wash the old grease, kerosene would also be acceptable. In my case I used a solvent tank with a pump, since I have one, but it would have worked with solvent in a pan and a solvent brush. Then I let the cleaned parts dry ov ernight, though compressed air may have worked just as well.
