Product Description

If you have frost building up in your freezer, or the temperature in your fridge is running too warm, there may be an issue with the defrost thermostat. This thermostat sits on the top of the evaporator and protects it from overheating when the defrost cycle is running. It does this by regulating the temperature in your appliance, and should shut off the heater once the frost has melted off the coils. If you need a new thermostat, this is a genuine OEM replacement part. Please be sure to disconnect the power supply to your fridge before beginning this repair.

No matter where I set the control the freezer keeps running and maintains temperature at approximately 12-15 degrees

Hello Charlie, Thank you for the question. We suggest testing the Defrost Thermostat with a Multimeter. The best way to do this is to remove the thermostat from the refrigerator so you can control the temperature of the sensor. You can let the sensor warm up to room temperature. With the sensor warmed up to room temperature the sensor should read approximately 6.2K Ohms at 68°F. With the thermistor submerged is a glass full of ice water, the sensor should be very close to 32°F which should read approximately 16.3K Ohms. If the values that you are getting are far off from these readings, then the sensor is bad and should be replaced. We hope this helps!

It stopped freezing -- just warm air!
Disconnect AC power and remove the dial gauge. Remove three racks to reach the back panel inside the freezer by removing split stoppers on one side. Remove all the hex screws and rubber insulation pads to expose the cooling unit. Remove the old thermostat from the cooling pipe and install the new unit. Make sure that the thermostat brack et fits tightly around the cooling pipe; otherwise, it cannot read the correct temperature. Reverse the procedure.

The repair is pretty straight forward check video with this site . If your fan is working do not replace it, that was not the problem that was suggested. The thermostat sensor solved the problem.

my parents (85) freezer was warm/ ice in the bottom
I looked at the other reviews and decided to buy both the defrost thermostat and the defrost timer. I told mom I would try to fix her freezer for mothers day. After cleaning up, I checked the defrost heater as was described by others and it had resistance. I the installed both the defrost thermostat and timer.I plugged in the freezer and after about 8 hours I had mom put some water on the top shelf. The next morning was Mothers day and the water was frozen. This site and the reviews really helped. They are both very happy.
