This washing machine lid hinge ball is well under an inch in diameter. These hinge balls are sold separately, though two are required per lid. This lid hinge ball is made of plastic and is used for Maytag brand washing machines.

REPLACED LID HINGES
FOLLOWED DIRECTIONS GIVEN IN THE VIDEO BUT DIDN'T HAVE THE STRENGTH TO PUSH THE LID DOWN BY MYSELF. I PUT CARDBOARD UNDER THE LID TO HELP HOLD THE ONE END IN PLACE WHILE I GENTLY TAPED DOWN ON OTHER SIDE WITH RUBBER MALLET UNTIL THE LID SNAPPED IN PLACE. REMOVED THE CARDBOARD & WAS BACK IN THE WASHING BUSINESS.

The lid had been pulled off the washing machine
I placed one of the hinge balls into the hinge hole on the left side. Using the lid to hold it in place I inserted the hinge ball into the right side hinge hole. The hinge hole on the lid itself is closer to the end of the lid on the right side. I carefully positioned the lid at a 90 angle to the washing machine and firmly push down unt il the lid popped into place. Job done
