My Kenmore Dryer (Model 417.98042701) does not work. The control panel lights up, when I press the START button, it beeps once and I hear a humming sound, but nothing works (no spin, no heat, no movement). What might need to be replaced?

Disconect power, lift top, remove two phillip head screws, remove broken part, replace with new part, put screws back in, put top down. Done

Activator for door switch broke
Removed lint filter and 2 screws beneath it. used putty knife and screwdriver to pry open top of dryer by pushing putty knife in the gap, in the front, under the top of the dryer. Lift top of dryer and open the door. Remove two screws holding the door switch and then remove two wires from the switch. Replace activator and reinstall the sw itch and screws.

Followed instructions on your website. 1st checked the fuse. then Checked the door switch. Broken metal. tab. Opened the door and the top lid. removed 2 screws holding switch and activating retainer, dropped one, (and lost it). Bypassed switch, dryer worked. ordered new parts..

dryer stopped working but dryer light stayed on
unplugged dryer. Removed 2 screws from dryer vent and took screen out. Popped up top of dryer. Unscrewed activator switch holder. Unplugged switch from connectors and pulled out switch. Put switch into new holder, screwed back in, replaced connector wires, plugged in dryer to test. Worked fine so closed lid, screwed vent back in. Don e!

The dryer would shut off/or not run at all
The door switch/actuator was broken, so for a time until the part arrived, we had to use a broom handle to tightly push the door closed to work. After ordering the part, I watched the video on the web-site. Even though my dryer was a little bit older and a little bit different, the video provided the steps I needed to switch out the pa rt. It took a little longer than 15 minutes, because I needed someone to hold up the lid while I switched out the actuator and screwed back in the screws that held the actuator in place at an upside down angle. All in all, easy to do, plus it gave me the opportunity to vacuum behind the dryer.
