The the forward wheel hubs for the upper basket broke off at the same time.
This is the part number I ordered: PS11748145 wheel-tub for a five year-old Kitchenaid stainless steel Dishwasher. These are the dual-wheels on the front-inner sides of the dishwasher that the upper basket rolls in and out on. Since this is an electrical appliance, I know you should always unplug the dishwasher or cut off the circuit brea

ker to it before starting to work. I didn't do either but you should. Anyway, in looking at various youtube videos, I realized I could get this done fairly quickly. I shut off the water under the sink and then disconnected the drain hose (the opaque flex tube) and hot water hose using an adjustable wrench and a 5/8 open-end wrench. Then I took out two screws that were screwed through two brackets in the very top front of the dishwasher into the underside of the counter top. Yours may be different. On mine I have to open the door to gain access to these screws. They were Philips screws. Apparently these brackets are to keep the dishwasher steady. Then I removed two screws from a small black panel at the very front bottom of the dishwasher. This panel hides the front adjustable feet of the dishwasher. (There was another panel in back of it and it had some insulation attached to it. Both have to be removed) Those adjustable feet have to be raised turning them counter clockwise about two full turns, to lower the dishwasher from the underside of the countertop. You have to do this in order to be able to slide the dishwasher out of the area where it is housed. I then easily slid it out gently just far enough to be able to gain access two the two exterior hex-head screws on both sides that hold the brackets that the two wheels are connected to. I used a socket wrench to take out those screws to remove the old brackets inside the dishwasher and replace with the new ones. Make sure the rubber washers stay connected to the inside part of the dishwasher. Then once the bracket with wheels were replaced, I repeated everything in reverse order. Gently push the dishwasher back into place. The front adjustable wheels then need to be lowered to raise the dishwasher in order to reconnect the brackets to the lower side of the counter top. Then I reconnected the black panels at the front-bottom of the dishwasher. Then I reconnected the drain and hot-water hose under the sink and turned the water back on. If you read this I want you to know it took as long, if not longer to write this than it took to do this job. I wish you the best of luck.

Tub wheel axles had broken over time, leaving top rack unsupported
The repair itself was simple and done exactly in the way shown in the YouTube video. Once the dishwasher sides were exposed, the old tub wheel assemblies were easily unscrewed and replaced. The biggest difficulty was getting the built in dishwasher unit remounted and balanced, but all that was really needed beside basic tools was a li
